“Is the Church Essential?”
Selections from Ephesians that Highlight the Church
Is the church essential? That was a question asked by many in the COVID lock-downs era. It’s a very important question!
To many people, the church appears “non-essential” or “optional” or “Something I attend occasionally, or when it’s convenient.” Many who call themselves “believers” haven’t made a genuine commitment to a local church. Some are too busy to attend or to get involved. And some have been hurt by bad experiences and never returned to worship. Sadly, it’s also true that many who attend have no real understanding of what the Church is — or what it could be for them.
Paul, the apostle, gives us a grand and glorious vision for the Church as it should be — the way God intends it to be. I expect that if we were to live up to that vision, we’d be able to see how important and valuable it is for us to prioritize making an active commitment to joining a local gathering of Christ-followers. That’s an essential step for our spiritual growth and maturity, as well as for God’s plan and purpose.
Explore with us what Paul’s letter to the Ephesians teaches us about God’s plan and intention for his Church. Each Sunday, come prayerfully and with high expectations as we begin to collectively become a local expression of the body of Christ.
